Sand Hill Cranes were here for breakfast this morning.
Several "new" residents made their debut today: twin fawns, 6 juvie grey squirrels, and 5 young downy woodpeckers.
The young Downys are learning how to land (and not slide down :) the shepherd hooks where the peanut crunch suet hangs.
According to the Birds of Michigan Field Guide, the male Downy performs most of the brooding.Woodpeckers have a "long barbed tongue to pull insect's from tiny places."
