A wondrous day at Big Lake Farm. Two weeks ago I saw lots and lots of caterpillars. Today I saw the result of a very successful chrysalis stage. I not only saw tons of newly emerged Monarchs, many making their first flights as I spooked them...........I must have seen a dozen mating pairs, some of them so new that I suspect they had trouble flying and let me get right up to them. I've never had that happen before...
Conditions at the farm have been perfect. After a spring burn, we have had good rain and a terrific milkweed growth, they are in full bloom right now.
Without a doubt, this is the very best July sighting I have ever had.
Today's weather was temps in the 70s, mild wind, cloudy and sunny mixed.
