Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)
Sightings report image

Date: 07/11/2019

Number: 1

This is the first Monarch I have seen in Salt Lake City in 15-20 years, and I look. I know of several patches of milkweed in my area and have never seen any sign of munching, much less Monarchs in any form. Today I saw this monarch on the milkweed patch in my back yard, feeding from its flowers. There is no sign of caterpillar munching, so it came from some other patch. The wings are in perfect shape, so it's likely from a local hatch, or an escapee from a local zoo.
