While doing some hand weeding on our grassland I did see quite a few Monarchs. As recently as 8-2-19 I did see a mating pair in the same area. Some of the Monarchs are large, very bright and energetic and I have to wonder if some of these might be the migratory generation. Flowering species right now on the prairie are White and Purple prairie clover, Purple coneflower, Prairie blazing star and Virginia mountain mint. The Monarch favorite, Meadow and Rough blazing star is still about 2 weeks away from full bloom.
