On Avalonia Land Conservancy's Knox Preserve... lots of milkweed. Many pairs coupling up. It was about an hour walking slowly through the trail.
Monarchs seen mostly one by one, pairs or groups of three or four. It is impossible to see all at the same time. It was fairly windy, so most were flying around either looking to mate or finding milkweed to land on. It is about a 10 acre field with another 7 acres of shrubs... lots of milkweed and goldenrod starting to bloom. The path doesn't go out into the field so most of the ones I counted were along the path... there probably were more further out in the field. It has been the best year in awhile for monarchs.
