I've been very watchful for my favourite butterfly, the Monarch, since my husband and I moved here in coastal Sonoma County, California last October (2018) from Alaska where they're absent. The last time I'd seen one was in my native Manitoba, Canada in 2013, before I moved to Alaska in 2014! I finally saw a beautiful adult Monarch today, on this August 15 Full Moon (2019) feeding on a butterfly bush in the front yard! What a gift! :)! I'd actually asked a volunteer at the Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve where we hiked today, if she'd seen any Monarchs in the area, so it was a wonderful surprise to finally see one myself! We're currently renting, but when we have our own home, I'll make sure to have native milkweed plants for their caterpillars and lots of native blooming plants for the adults to feed on! They're so scarce in this area, I look forward to contributing to more sightings, by providing what they need to thrive! :)
