At 4:10 PM, I observed a monarch fly in directly from the Northeast and land on my Joe-pye-weed. I went closer and saw it was a very bright orange male. I sat on my swing and watched it nectar until 4:20 PM when it flew straight Southwest in a straight flight for over 150 feet before I lost sight of it. Weather was hazy with a thunderstorm in the distance with the Wind NNW-12. Temperature was 78F. I looked at my records and saw that I observed a monarch in directional fight as early as August 11th since record keeping began in 2010.
