Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/17/2019

Number: 2

Over the course of two hours, a male Monarch (see picture) intermittently fed from the CLC garden's butterfly bush and fluttered about in an agitated state, sometimes chasing away other butterflies and bees, including one other Monarch. The latter kept trying to feed only to be driven away. It never settled long enough for me to ID its sex. The male Monarch was having to battle a bit of a breeze some of the time, but seemed to waste a lot of energy warding off other pollinators. Finally alone, it fed for a while continuously before flying NW along the building and out of sight at about 7:30 pm...later than I've seen Monarchs at that bush...Within 15 minutes, a thunderstorm with heavy rains hit.
