Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/18/2019

Number: 110

Saw 2 roosts this afternoon, one of about 60 and another of about 50 at 2:30 PM. They were on one of our prairie remnants with cottonwood trees. This is the same place I have observed fall roosts in past years. This same area also had many Monarchs feeding on Blazing star so I would guess at least 200 were present in this one area. Also saw 87 more today on our main grassland feeding on Joe pye weed, Meadow and Rough blazing star. Will check this evening for roosts, a bit unusual to see them in trees during mid day. 75 degrees with a WNW wind of about 15.
