Brought caterpillar seen on 7/29 indoors to rear. Caterpillar successfully made chrysalis on 8/1. Unfortunately, the chrysalis began to turn a tannish color. On day 14 when the butterfly should have emerged, I saw a cobweb-like thread and a hole in the chrysalis. After researching online, it is clear that the caterpillar had fallen prey to Tachinid flies. There were small brown oval shaped "pods" on the floor of the butterfly habitat. So sad.
