Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/18/2019

Number: 300

Driving westbound on 80 about 2pm 8/18, we began seeing many, many Monarchs of all sizes coming from the woods & brush/flowers North of the freeway - all trying to cross the freeway from about 2 miles East of Soda Springs continually until about 1-2 miles West of Soda Springs. Sadly, many were being killed as we drove :( They were flying low and right into freeway traffic. Some would catch a wind drift & make it across all 3 lanes, but they still had to fly thru a bit of woods then across the Eastbound traffic. I saw many on the side of the road, many hit by cars and trucks. So sad. But SO MANY - was this a migration?
