Practice Report (Any Species)

Date: 07/27/2019

Number: 1

Up until yesterday we had not sighted any evidence of any Monarchs in our yard, be it eggs, caterpillars, or butterflies on the wing.  Finally, yesterday we reported 4 caterpillars.  You can view our report at:

Today that changed further when we spotted our first Monarch butterfly at about 10:45 AM.  Added to that, it was a female laying eggs on a swamp milkweed.

Granted, the included photo is not the most exciting.  But it was the one opportunity when she posed long enough on a dried day lily stem for me to snap a shot to prove that we did finally spot a Monarch butterfly at our home.

At the time, we had fair skies and calm winds, with:

  • Temperature   77°F
  • Dewpoint   63°F
  • Humidity   61%
  • Air Pressure   28.9 inches
