Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 08/21/2019

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports a hummingbird nectaring on Tithonia just as I stepped out to water the front yard about 9:30 am. It paused, and hovered "stepwise" closer to investigate me as I stepped onto the patio, then flew east. It's throat was slightly streaked on a grayish background. It was too fast for me to notice if it had any tail spots, so suspect a juvenile. I've only seen hummingbirds twice outside of this sighting, hovering near Tropical milkweeds or Tithonia. My east neighbor maintains a backyard hummingbird feeder while a "volunteer" trumpet vine blooms in the backyard of my west neighbor.
