Monarch Waystation #271 reports sighting a female laying eggs in the front yard on a potted Tropical milkweed on the patio as my husband left for the library about 10:05 am. She flew up but then came right back down to oviposit on a second Tropical milkweed in a separate nearby pot. All the garden Tropical mw plants were previously stripped by earlier monarch larvae and are now sporting new leaves. It looks like the Tmws won't get much rest this year! Hopefully other new young sprouts of Purple, Common, and Swamp milkweeds will help. This is the first year I can remember that I've had continuous sightings of overlapping monarch life stages starting from their spring arrival into deep August in my yard! Hoping this bodes well for the migrant generation to come.
