Sightings report image

Date: 08/21/2019

Number: 20

Seeing lots of adults, eggs and caterpillars. Planted native milkweed this year.

Editor's Note: contacted observer for more details on sighting

Observer's additional details:
I have been seeing this number (20 individuals) every day, all at once, flying around. 2 people counting.

Yesterday we saw eight individuals at once, in just one location in the yard. So there were likely two or three times that number on the property. This number of sightings has been going on daily for about 6 weeks. We watch for hours as our offices face the yard and we workout in the pool for an hour at a time and see them. We see more flight activity in the morning and late afternoon.

They were nectaring (we have buddleia), laying eggs (we have native and tropical milkweed) and mating. We have a few monarchs all year round, but from June on, it has been very busy here.

I am unsure about which direction they are flying, but I suspect south.
