How distressing! Looks like The Black Death has hit the small patch of milkweed that I can regularly monitor. I have no way of knowing if these caterpillars were laid on the plant that’s covered in fungus and favored by the females. But it’s highly likely. I’m careful not to touch them when I transfer them to the healthy plant where these were found. I expected to find many caterpillars there but only see 2 healthy looking 3&4th instar cats. I’m hoping to be able to get the hose out and rinse the plants off just in case that’ll do some good. But I need to find plastic or something to put under them to protect from backsplash.
What do you think? Any advice would be appreciated.
