Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 08/26/2019

Number: 1

Monarch Waystation #271 reports sighting of a juvenile hummingbird [no tail spots, gray throat] attempting to nectar at the white spires of Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum) about 6 pm. Later @6:55 pm the same (or another) juvenile hummingbird with the same field marks was curious enough to approach and look in the kitchen window at the front of the house when it saw me pass by through the open curtains. Hummingbirds have been seen this year at my neighbor's feeder in her backyard, and at the Tithonia and Tropical milkweeds in both my yards, but this was the first time I saw one try out the Culver's Root.
