The southern Okanagan flyway where I am is a semiarid desert region with a lake in a shallow valley, often having summer temperatures of 100+F. For hummingbirds, the region is almost all calliopes which were here in abundance from mid-April to early August (temps are the hottest in mid-July to August, and flying insects become more scarce). Except for the first few days of August when juvenile and female calliopes were still visiting the feeder, there have been no calliopes or rufous birds. One bird - a large skittish female with broadtailed markings (? unsure) - was at the feeder on 23 Aug 2019. No visitors since and only this one visitor in the last 3 weeks - it seems the Okanagan 'hummer season' is at an end for 2019.
