Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/28/2019

Number: 50

2:30pm I was walking along the park and saw a couple of monarchs fluttering around sumac. I didn't think there were any flowers for them to feed on so I went to take a look. There were a couple dozen Monarchs just resting on the sunny side of the sumac plants along the bluff. I looked to the left at a nearby pine tree and there was another group of Monarchs just resting on the edge of the tree on the sunny side. I backed away slowly so I wouldn't disturb them and all of a sudden a flurry of Monarchs was flying around over my head and I realized they had been resting in a maple tree. I didn't think they would be roosting this time of day but I think that's what it was. I'm going back at dusk to see if they're still over there. I have never seen so many Monarchs in August.
