Monarch, Captive-Reared

Date: 08/20/2019

Number: 6

Initially took in 17 1-instar and 2-instar caterpillars and 3 eggs that I found on my balloon plant milkweed at the end of July... The 3 that hatched from eggs in captivity survived. Even though the caterpillars were small, almost all of the them were infected by tachinid fly larvae. Only 3 of 18 survived into healthy adults.
