This picture was taken at Lurie Garden in Chicago at 5:59pm on 30 August 2019 CST. There were about 10 butterflies in this picture, and about 2 additional monarchs that were visible to me elsewhere on the same tree. This tree is different from the one I spotted on 24 August 2019. This tree is next to a large-ish cluster of milkweed.

The past two weeks, many monarchs could be see nectaring on the milkweed at this garden around this hour. My impression is that the numbers I saw on 30 August 2019 had dropped greatly from the evenings of 28 and 29 of August 2019.
