We've seen an amazing amount of monarchs, caterpillars and at least 6 chrysalises over the last month. We built a greenhouse with some cedar siding and they're using it for their chrysalis. The caterpillars are on very short milkweed plants just behind it. We've seen all stages on a daily basis. There are often multiple caterpillars on one small plant.
