Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 09/12/2019

Number: 1

We found this dead monarch on a car grille. Are automobiles the greatest threat to monarchs - the most terrible mobile predator on Planet Earth?

Years ago we infrequently drove school bus in Wisconsin where on east / west roads we watched the death and injury of hundreds of migrating monarchs flying from ground level to as high as the tops of the tallest trucks. Death by contact was frequent; death by wind turbulence and then some additional trauma was perhaps even more frequent. We have no solution, but all of us as drivers might think of the destruction we cause.
