Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/12/2019

Number: 4

Noted as I volunteered at Monarch Waystation #299 [AKA the Virginia Living Museum] this morning:
9:15 am a faded female monarch with a tattered right forewing laid an egg on a Tropical milkweed growing in one of the large pots on the Fire Road next to the Wason Ed Center. The female then flew up to nectar on the same plant, then flew north up the road.
9:45 am an intact-winged crisp male monarch nectared on the same Tropical milkweed plant the female had been sighted on. In the next 10 minutes the female seen earlier flew from the north along the road towards the male and laid an egg on a nearby potted Tropical milkweed. She briefly flew near the nectaring male, attempting to nectar on the same flower. He flew up and then back down to another bloom, and the 2 monarchs nectared a short distance from each other on neighboring potted Tropical milkweeds. As I moved northwards up the Fire road they remained on the blooms nectaring. Do not carry a camera, hands full, so no photos.
