Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/12/2019

Number: 1

I often see signs of the presence of larvae but not the larvae. Today I found a big last instar caterpillar. I am rearing caterpillars for tagging. I have collected eggs and small larvae from my own and my neighbor's plantings of milkweed. Another friend who has an entire raised bed devoted to common milkweed and butterfly weed has been bringing me many caterpillars. Interestingly, several caterpillars and chrysalises from her garden have been parasitized by flies.
