Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 09/14/2019

Number: 1

Eclose of a Monarch I have been watching daily since 23/08/19 when the caterpillar attached to a leaf stem of a wild geranium. (I had 40+ larvae on my cultivated A. tuberosa and A. incarnata in late July - August.)
Re-located the chrysalis to a stem of a Penstemon cultivar in my garden after the stem broke in Hurricane Dorian (08/08/19).
This is only the third I have watched soon after eclose, and it seemed she stayed near the shell of the chrysalis much longer that the first two, without moving her wings. It was windy and she took shelter in the leaves of the plant for a while. Then she climbed up about 6 inches, and flew up to the eaves of my shed. From there to a large oak tree where she rested, then circled around a couple of times and away she flew.
