Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 09/14/2019

Number: 1

I found one last instar caterpillar on my own planting of syriaca milkweed. There is always evidence of caterpillars having fed, but they are hiding. My friend continues to bring me caterpillars from her garden where she has an entire raised bed devoted to milkweed and a great many nectar sources. Only one caterpillar was very small, probably 2nd instar. She reported seeing eggs also on this date - most unusual for mid-September here.
