Date: 09/16/2019

Number: 80

6:10-8:00 pm at the Tip at Point Pelee National Park
22°c mostly clear with light NNE wind @8 kmh
Daytime high 23°c 76% humidity. Overnight low 16.
Sunset 7:39 Sunrise 9/17 7:13

Observed a few Monarchs nectaring on Goldenrod & on Woodland sunflowers. About 40 Monarchs initially were seen flitting from the north to East or west sides & over treetops arriving over the calmer west side over path & individually settling on Hackberry or bare branches.
The last 20 mins before sunset the last 40 arrived & quickly settled alone. About a dozen of those settled at Tip Shuttle stop.
Most were pristine. One had crumpled wings from not properly inflating & another had a torn wing.
After hearing about the thousands of Monarchs flitting SW through Essex County numerous visitors arrived to see the Monarchs but the super generation took full advantage of the favourable weather to journey south.
40,000 reported by 2 Hawk Watch Towers west of Point Pelee as I reported to JN.
