Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/14/2019

Number: 4

I did not get up early today so missed early am feeding. I went out to sit in the backyard & it was really quite. I sat there for about an hour. I did not hear any chasing or see any hummers for awhile & felt the dread of they 'must have all left'. I stayed there longer & had my binoculars & camera ready. I finally saw 1 hummer eating from the Turk's Cap at the far back fence area. Then the female would fly up to a small branch hanging down near the Turk's Cap. She was camped out there defending her favorite plant. This was at 5-6 PM so she seemed content to stay there. I watched her with binoculars take time to preen her feathers. It took around 30mins before I heard at least 2 more Juvi's chasing ea. Other while a 4th hummer slipped in to eat at the feeder. The female by the Fence seemed to desire to stay away from the younger ones chasing ea. Other around. No signs of any males today. I suppose they could have left after their am feeding. In the past our older males used to leave Sept.29-30th every yr. Like clock-work for the past 6yrs. Perhaps these 2 makes are the younger generation. It is always sad 2 see them leave. In upper 90's today.
