While I was sitting outside enjoying this beautiful day, a hummingbird visited the rose of Sharon and a self-sown evening primrose about 18” to my left. Didn’t want to move but peeked out of the corner of my eye just as it decided to investigate the red bandanna that only partially covered my left ear! Thankfully it decided not to check out my ear and flew up into the nearby Kousa dogwood. They seem to be attracted to the bumper crop of red fruits on the Kousa, or possibly to the myriad large fruit flies that are equally interested in the berries.
I also saw a hummingbird nectaring from the patch of orange cosmos near our porch, another one nectaring from our one remaining monarda blossom, one chasing a monarch away, and at least two different birds feeding from our feeders as well.
Not really sure of the total number of different birds seen, but all have been females/juveniles.
