Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 09/01/2019

Number: 1

We decided on our way home on Sunday afternoon to visit a Wildlife Restoration portion of State Game Lands #333, just off of Shiloh Road, to see if any Monarchs might be in the area.  We had barely parked the car when a Monarch butterfly flew overhead at about 30 feet headed west.  A few minutes later a Monarch butterfly came back across the parking lot (heading southeast) and disappeared in amongst the flowers that were in bloom.  I’m assuming it was the same butterfly.

I had not yet gotten my camera out when this happened, and we did not see any more Monarchs while we were there (roughly 4:25 PM to 4:45 PM) .  However, I did take some photos of the area and some of the variety of yellow flowers growing there to give you a sense of the place.  I plan to stop by again in a week or so to see if anything Monarch-related is happening then.  Stay tuned!

Conditions at the time of our visit under cloudy skies included:

  • Temperature:     70°F
  • Dewpoint:     60°F
  • Humidity:     70%
  • Air Pressure:     28.9 inches
  • Wind from the SSW at about 8 mph
