It was a beautiful, sunny, very warm late summer day for September 19th here in central Michigan today. Starting as early as 9:30 a.m. I started to see 2 monarchs on our buddleia bush come, nectar heavily & go. But not until about 1 p.m. did I see a frenzy of monarchs appear, fluttering wildly about our buddleia bush -- first 2, then 4 and finally a total of 6 monarch visitors! Quite awesome! Later while out on our lake at about 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. I saw 2 flying singly over our canal in the direction of our house and then 2 flying quite high over the open lake but they appeared to be flying in a northerly direction which surprised me. However, there are a cluster of evergreen trees there on that side of the lake so they could have been heading to a roosting site.
