Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers

Date: 09/21/2019

Number: 23

Sunny, humid, 79 degrees, very little breeze but from the way the flowers are moving and dancing you’d think it was breezy :) it’s the hummers enjoying nectar. Flying in formation with groups of 5 or 6 birds. Aerial antics, and play. The flowering dogwood tree often has several hummers perching and playing within its branches. Buzzing by our heads and sailing past our feet—where the nasturtiums and impatients are growing low to the ground:) There’s smorgasbord of flowers, grown for them— 3 kinds of salvia, lantana, geraniums, phlox of various shades, cardinal flowers, blue lobelia, turtle heads, cuphea, petunias, bleeding hearts, pentas, hibiscus, clematis ragouchi, morning glories, zinnias. Perching, preening, resting near the feeders, and for the most part ignoring the feeders—flowers are their preference. Today’s been filled with wonderful, humming bird games.
