This picture was taken on 25 September 2019 at 12:59pm CST in Chicago on Wacker Dr. between Franklin/Orleans and Wells. The high/low temperature around the noon hour was 79/72F, with humidity at 54% and passing clouds (https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/usa/chicago/historic). Winds were from the WSW at roughly 14mph.
One adult is pictured having newly eclosed from her chrysalis. The meconium spot on the cement is still visibly damp and reddish/orange. This adult female perched in this position for the duration of the sighting. She flexed her wings from time to time, but did not take her first flight while I was there.
There are still some nectaring plants in the planter (mostly lantana?).
This adult monarch was seen as a caterpillar and reported (sighting date 14 September 2019).
