My husband and I were crossing the Peace Bridge and were waiting to be checked at the border crossing into the US. The process was slow so we and others had to wait 1/2 hour in the line-up. (11:20AM to 11:50AM)
While waiting I watched monarchs flitting past and over the cars and trucks in front and to the side of us, all headed in a SW direction.
They were traveling in singles and doubles and in very regular intervals - every 2-5 minutes.
It was interesting to watch a monarch confront the side of a big truck before figuring out it had to fly a bit higher to clear the top.
I'm sure there were more than 30 monarchs making this crossing as I could not monitor in back of our vehicle as we slowly progressed forward.
I was so happy that the butterflies did not have to dodge fast moving cars.
It was nearly 80 degree day, with a moderate breeze. There was plenty of sun and friendly clouds.
