Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/30/2019

Number: 5

Until today I haven't seen more than one monarch in the garden at a time.

This afternoon there were at least 4 on the tithonia in our back yard and at least one in the field behind our house. Later in the day two of them were a pair that sure looked like they were in the act of mating.

The sad observation of the day was the remains of a male monarch dangling in the clutches of a preying mantis. Yes, I know it's spelled "praying" but that's beyond fraud.

Mantises are beneficial so I didn't kill it, but did move it elsewhere and will keep an eye out for predators on the highest, most inviting flowers
