Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/30/2019

Number: 200

This was a roost of at least 200 monarchs at the Northeast corner of a residence. They were hanging in a mature maple tree and a mature redbud tree, both of which were sheltered from the north by mature oak trees. It was a 90 degree humid Kansas day for the last day of September. I saw them first about 3 PM and they were still there at 7 when I left. This was a residential property with lots of blooming flowers that could have provided the monarchs nectar but I saw none of them at the flowers, only in and around the trees.
