Shortly after the noon hour on a record-breaking 89 degree day for October 1st in the Detroit metropolitan area, I saw a Monarch circling around my house in the direction of our butterfly bush.
The problem was though that 4 Painted Ladies were occupying th very bush that the Monarch sought to nectar from. The Monarch was actually charged at by a Painted Lady as it attempted to nectar. But then it would fly off and come right back to nectar in the same area of the bush. This picture shows the 2 of them precariously close to one another that lasted for a very short time.
