I hope you are well. The last hummingbird sighting of the Ruby-Throated family that lived here in the neighborhood [at least five were counted in August 2019] occurred on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. She flew south that night or on October 3rd. From October 2nd to 3rd, we had a significant drop in temperature from a daytime high in the 90s*F to the 70s*F. I usually keep the feeder stocked with fresh sugar water to November 1 feed any birds traveling from up north. A couple of years ago we had an Orange Rufous Hummingbird fly in for a couple of days. It took it several minutes to figure-out how to feed from our feeder.
These Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds enjoyed our perennial Lantana [blooms June to November] and Red Salvia [blooms March to November] located in a 100 sq. ft. garden, as well. Both, plants can handle full sun or mostly shade and require very little irrigation.
