Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/04/2019

Number: 1

At 6:22 in the evening we were stopped at a traffic light near Franklin, N.C. when a single monarch floated right across in front of our car. It was still 79 degrees with little breeze and fading sunshine.

We had spent the day on the Blue Ridge Parkway and never spotted a single monarch although we did see a number of other butterflies. A Forest Ranger said that the extreme heat had held them back but that they should take off across the high ridges with the incoming cold front and cooling temperatures.
