At around 1:30 p.m. we had about 7 Painted Ladies on our butterfly bush which would flit about & come & go. It was sunny day but winds were gusty along with temps in the low 60s. Just when I thought I had seen the last of the monarchs here in central Michigan a beautiful female Monarch showed up and tried to nectar sometimes quite closely to a Painted Lady, which can be very aggressive also. The female Monarch stayed for at least 2 hours and a male Monarch came by also to nectar but only briefly.
