I did not have my phone to snap a photo, as I was not expecting to see a monarch fly over my head. I have never spotted one in my hometown before (Columbus, Ga)
It was beautiful. I watch nature daily, there are plenty of winged friends flittering through the sky right now, especially Fritillaries. And because they are deep orange I readily notice them and watch. But today, my orange flyer was not a fritillary!! Underaide lacked the shiny white reflection, and instead stunned me with it's beautiful thick black border with white polka dots.
It landed near by on a weed (not sure what the weed is called) and as I slowly crept up, it was apparent it was indeed the rare occurance of a ADULT MONARCH, right here in my yard.
