Today I saw 4 monarchs at various times during the day. The day was warm and sunny with little breeze all day.
The first monarch I saw was at 11:25 this morning and it was nectaring on a lantana in my neighbor's yard. It stayed very briefly. Ten minutes later I saw another monarch flying slowly through the neighborhood in a SW direction. I did not see it stop. At 2:23 this afternoon I found one monarch on my cosmos. I ran to get my camera and barely captured it before it, too, flew off toward the SW. The last one I saw about 3:20 this afternoon. I never saw it stop but it, too, flew off in a SW direction. They were all flying just a few yards above the ground. I was surprised that three of the four did not stop to feed as there are few flowers in our area due to a long drought and extremely hot temperatures into October. I have worked hard to try to keep my butterfly bushes, cosmos, asters, and sunflowers blooming but they won't last much longer.
Each monarch sighting is quite a thrill for me!
