Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/14/2019

Number: 1

While working outside on our yard this afternoon we saw a Monarch butterfly come struggling by going east to west along the front of our house.  I say “struggling” because it was being buffeted by a brisk wind from the west, with gusts better than 25 mph.  The butterfly made it past our house and to the west side of our neighbor’s.  But as it attempted to fly over that house it was blown back and up by the wind until we lost sight of it in the glare of the sun.  This was about 2:30 PM.

At the time we had partly cloudy skies.  Other conditions were:

  • Temperature:       62°F
  • Dewpoint:             37°F
  • Humidity:             40%
  • Air Pressure:       28.62 inches
  • Wind:                   from the west, averaging about 15 mph, with gusts over 25 mph
