Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 10/14/2019

Number: 85

During our butterfly count for NABA (North American Butterfly Association), we saw over 85 monarchs in this area. 61 of those were seen at Phil Hardberger Park. Most were flying high heading south. Some were observed nectaring on Frostweed (Verbesina virginica), and a few on Cowpen Daisy (Verbesina encelioides). In the planted Wildscape Garden at Phil Hardberger Park west, two or three monarchs were feeding on Gregg's Blue Mist. It was a fairly slow day as far as species numbers, so we were thrilled to see migrating monarchs!
