About 5:45 pm, as the sun was beginning to set and there was a very cool southerly wind off of Lake Ontario, we drove a "Gator" down to the elevated cliff shoreline of Lake Ontario, west of Port Hope, and spotted 7 monarchs flying up into trees to roost for the night or flying up from the field in which they had been nectaring. A few days before - on October 11, the property owner counted over 100 monarchs in this same location.
