Tulips PLANTED
Sightings report image

Date: 10/10/2019

Number: 74

The 5th grade students of the Latin School of Chicago planted 74 red emperor tulip bulbs. We planted half of them as controls, which we will report to Journey North, but we also planted others for our own test garden. Some classes are testing if planting upside down will affect the tulip growth, some are testing cutting the bulb in half before planting, and some are testing injecting the bulb with food coloring before planting.

As you can see in the photo, we have violated the protocol by planting close to the building foundation and sidewalk. Sadly, this is the only land we have available to us in our urban setting.

We eagerly await our results in spring!
