The Monarch was in the water at the tidal edge, wings flat in water. I picked up, sand and all, as I carried to the sand dunes high up in the dry area of the beach, he climbed onto the driftwood in my hand, so I let the wet sand fall from my hand. I set him down on some dry dune grass, he seemed ok, no damage I could see to wings, body or legs.
