At PPNP Northwest beach combined with this location at the tip in the afternoon, monarch passing south alongthe west shoreline"back of the beach' area and parking lots until they reached the tip area. Most proceeded directly out over the lake into a gentle onshore breeze from the SW. Air temp 15 C, surface water temp 16 C and sand surface temp in full sunlight blue sky was in excessof 20 C (68 F)In onehour at the tip, I observed 7 migrants returning to the tip area and absorbing heat at top of Hop tree canopy.
