My wife and I saw one adult resting on large dahlia "bush" in the shade in our backyard at 10:00 a.m. The night before the temperature had dropped into the 40s. I assume it spent the night there. Shortly after 10:00, as the dahlia was bathed in sunlight and the temperature rose into the low 50s, the Monarch left. With such a late start, could it possibly reach its wintering grounds? I hope so.
